Dear Fellow Florida International University Students,

It is my distinct honor to welcome you to the beautiful Biscayne Bay Campus and to the Broward Pines Center.  On behalf of the Student Government Association, we are privileged to have such remarkable students like you in our university.  You have chosen a most eclectic and well respected institution of higher learning that will be your foundation for your future success.

Since FIU is one of the largest universities in the nation we are widely recognized for our academic research, enormous growth and advancement in a myriad of degrees and educational programs, for our multi-cultural diverse population, for our exciting and enjoyable student life activities, and for our unique propensity to always strive for excellence.  By taking full advantage of all the different services and opportunities that FIU has to offer such as: research, networking, athletic involvement, campus life, leadership experience and much more!

One of your main purposes of attending FIU is to further your education.  However, your college life is not only about academics; it’s more than that.  It’s about getting involved and engaged in activities and organizations of interest in your university or community.  Your active involvements in such organizations will not only open numerous doors of new opportunities and abundant experiences, but most importantly, you will acquire leadership and interpersonal skills that will place you at the helm in today’s job market.

  SGA News & Events - Fall 2009! 
The Student Government Association serves as the governing body responsible for representing student interests and addressing student needs. In SGA you will find dedicated and enthusiastic students that love their school and want the student population to be happy with the different services that FIU provides.
 
There are many ways of joining SGA. You can be a Council Member (there are a few open positions!), you can join our Intern Program (where you will learn about SGA by working with a current Council member) or you can join one of our Committees (Student Services, Academic Affairs, Environmental Affairs, etc.) and start working right now on issues that are important to you and to other students.
 
If you want to meet the current SGA council members and find out on what issues they are working on, you can attend any SGA General Meeting. The General Meetings take place every Wednesday at 3:30pm in WUC 155! We hope to see you there!

The purpose of the Student Government Association is to serve as the governing body responsible for representing student interests and addressing student needs on matters of University, county, or state concern. The mission of Student Government is to provide for and improve the overall student experience by serving as an advocate for the rights and common interests of the students, fostering student life, encouraging community involvement, and embracing diversity, enhancing and preserving academic excellence and integrity and acting as a liaison between the student body, the University, and external communities. Furthermore, SGC is devoted to fairness, accountability, and achieving the University's mission while keeping the best interests of all students a priority.
