Article I
PURPOSE

 

A.                 The name of this organization shall be the Student Organizations Council, hereafter referred to as the SOC.

 

B.                 The SOC is the official governing body comprised of the leadership of all registered campus organizations, responsible for representing student clubs and organizations.  The purpose of the SOC is to recognize, fund, regulate, and address the needs of student clubs and organizations.

 

C.                 The responsibilities of the SOC include representing the interests of student clubs and organizations through:

1.       Identifying, supporting, and presenting student interests to the SGC.

2.       Allocating an annual budget to registered organizations.

3.       Coordinating activities between registered organizations.

4.       Disseminating information amongst student organizations.

Executive Board Member Duties

 

A.      President

1.       Set and maintain weekly office hours.

2.       Has the power to call meetings, as needed.

3.       May recommend legislation in general meetings.

4.       Presides over and arranges SOC General Meetings, including setting the agenda and conducting the business of the meeting in accordance with the current edition of Robert’s Rules of Order and all provisions of the SOC Constitution and Bylaws. 

5.       Represents the interests of the SOC to the campus administration, faculty, student body, and Student Government Council.

6.       Creates committees and appoints individual committee chairs and members.  Appointments are confirmed by a simple majority of the voting delegates present at a general meeting.

7.       Will execute all other duties as prescribed in the SOC constitution and Bylaw.

8.       Must have fulfilled a full year term within the SOC Executive Board in order to be eligible to run for office .

B.      Vice-President

1.       Set and maintain weekly office hours.

2.       Serves as advisor to the SOC Chairperson.

3.       Executes all official assignments given by the President.

4.       Serves as acting SOC Chair in the absence of the chair as detailed in the SOC Constitution and Bylaws.

5.        Executes all other duties as prescribed in the SOC Constitution and Bylaws.

6.       Must attend all SOC Executive Board and general meetings, unless the President and Advisor excuse an absence. 

7.       Supervises committees and collects reports from the committees created by the president and reports back to the president.

            C.   Secretary

1.       Set and maintain weekly office hours.

2.       Records minutes at all SOC meetings.

3.       Executes all official assignments given by the President.

4.       Establishes and maintains all SOC files.

5.       Reads, generates, and maintains all official correspondence and reports these at SOC general meetings.

6.       Must attend all SOC Executive Board and general meetings, unless the President and the Advisor excuse an absence.

7.       Will execute all other duties as prescribed in the SOC Constitution and Bylaws.

             D.  Treasurer

1.       Set and maintain weekly office hours.

2.       Responsible for compiling the annual SOC budget to the Biscayne Bay Student Government Council. 

3.       Reviews all club accounts according to the SOC budget allocations.

1.       Maintains comprehensive budget records reflecting all SOC expenditures and allocations. 

2.       Executes all official assignments given by the President.

3.       Must attend all SOC Executive Board and general meetings, unless the President and the Advisor excuse an absence.

4.       Will execute all other duties as prescribed in the SOC Constitution and Bylaws.

              E.  Events Coordinator

1.       Set and maintain weekly office hours.

2.       Responsible for the initiation and programming of SOC-sponsored events

3.       Recruits committee members for the production of special events.  Appointments are confirmed by a simple majority of the voting delegates present at a general meeting.

4.       Carries out official assignments given by the President.

5.       Will execute all other duties as prescribed in the SOC Constitution & Bylaws.

6.       Must attend all SOC Executive Board and general meetings, unless the President and the Advisor excuse an absence.

               F.  Marketing Director

1.       Set and maintain weekly office hours.

2.       Maintains the SOC display case

3.       Serves as a liaison between SOC and the Beacon.

4.       Responsible for producing the SOC newsletter every semester, not including summer

5.       Reports to the SOC once a week on the events and meetings held by student organizations.

6.       Coordinates and participates in SOC presentation programs for incoming freshmen and transfers

7.       Develops marketing materials to enhance interest in SOC membership as well as attendance at events.

8.       Carries out official assignments given by the President.

9.       Will execute all other duties as prescribed in the SOC Constitution & Bylaws.

10.   Must attend all SOC Executive Board and general meetings, unless the President and the Advisor excuse an absence.
